Psalm 42:1 As the deer pants for the water brooks, so pants my soul for You, O God. NKJV
How refreshing is the soul after getting after a long thirsty period? There are three reasons why these creatures are so thirsty and panted after water: first, they lived in desert regions where water was scarce; secondly, after becoming exhausted from slaying and devouring snakes, they craved water to cool off; and third, that after being pursued by dogs, they run to the water and enter it for safety.
People with panting hearts find sweet relief in God. Only when you are in desperate need of something do you pant after it. You will pant after God if He is what you desire. God is a haven for the weary and the oppressed. The living water that was in Jesus caused the woman who met him at the well to start panting. She finally received relief from the weight of life when she got it. Let your heart yearn for God as we start this new year. When the “dogs” of life are pursuing you, He will keep you safe, and He will give you rest when you’re worn out.
Prayer: Father, as we begin a new year, let my soul pant after You every day in Jesus’ name. Amen
