Deuteronomy 5:1 And Moses called all Israel, and said to them: “Hear, O Israel, the statutes and judgments which I speak in your hearing today, that you may learn them and be careful to observe them. (NKJV)
Continuous learning is a crucial aspect of spiritual growth. In the past, people entered into a covenant with God, and Moses instructed them to listen, learn, and obey his statutes. Similarly, Christians have entered into a covenant with God through Jesus Christ and should be receptive to God’s expectations. Moses’ threefold command to the Israelites is a valuable lesson for all of God’s followers. Listening involves absorbing and accepting information about God. Learning entails comprehending its significance and implications. Following requires putting into practice all that we have learned and understood. All three components are vital to fostering a thriving relationship with God.
Learning is a discipline that requires humility and patience. There are several crucial factors involved in this process, including: (1) engaging in silent reflection and meditation to discern God’s will, (2) cultivating a spirit of repentant humility, (3) exercising self-control in the face of adversity, and (4) confidently practicing patience, relying on the Holy Spirit to impart valuable lessons in our lives. It is important to recognize that God has both short-term and long-term lessons for us at any given moment. The question is, are we actively engaging in the necessary work to learn and grow from these experiences? Let us approach this task with a diligent attitude, committed to deepening our understanding of God’s plan for our lives.
Prayer: Father, by Your Holy Spirit help me to see life experiences as an opportunity to learn and grow in Jesus’ name. Amen
God bless you
